Analysis Of Lahiri s The Third And Final Continent
Memory and Relationships in Lahiriââ¬â¢s The Third and Final Continent Each piece of diaspora literature is laced with several underlying themes that make themselves visible in unique ways. Memory and family are two of these themes that seem to take root in several pieces. These themes enable the author to add dynamics and depth to anything that they write. A prime example of these dynamics can be found in Jhumpa Lahiriââ¬â¢s The Third and Final Continent. Lahiri flawlessly uses both of these themes to bring her writing to the next level. In fact, the relationships, both familial and otherwise, formed in The Third and Final Continent are based heavily on shared memory and routine. Lahiri proves that shared memories play a huge part inâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Luckily, he did not have to overcome his journey alone. Lahiri incorporates his family life in Calcutta with his family life in America. His life in Calcutta was not the best that it could have been, he quite literally watched his mother die. He had to take on a mature role in her passing a s he explains that, ââ¬Å"and then, because my brother could not bear it, I had assumed the role of the eldest son and had touched the flame to her temple, to release her tormented soul to heaven,â⬠(Lahiri, 5). All of the familial memories associated with Calcutta seem to be very dark and deep in contrast with the familial memories the narrator makes in America. Lahiri most likely did this in an effort to show the bettering and renewal of a life. A very minute detail of this story that resonates deeply would be the narratorââ¬â¢s son. Though he is only mentioned on the last page and not even given a name, he seems to hold a lot of the weight of the story and underlying themes on his back. The son grows up fully in Massachusetts and lives life as a Bengali submerged in an American culture. The total picture enables law enforcement personnel to conduct all of their tactical operations from a single ââ¬Å"common pictureâ⬠. It is imperative for law enforcement personnel to have a clear understanding of the situation as they develop their tactics for neutralizing the situation. Unlike the Department of Defense (DoD), LEA have a more stringent set of rules for the use of deadly force during violent situations, to prevent collateral damage and potential lawsuits. The more information that is disseminated to the owest levels of operational personnel the better that chance of mission success with minimum or no collateral damage. This new product alleviates the need for two separate applications and combines the ISR and TTL operations into one software package that will reduce costs. Cost reduction will be experienced in several areas such as software, training, documentation, etc. It will also enable the operators to successfully complete their missions. LEA have limited budgets and resources and ForceX, Inc. an position the new product at a cost far less than the competitorââ¬â¢s product offerings while solving the two highest requirements with one software application. Competition An analysis of the competition in the market shows that the competitors are capable of filling the airborne ISR requirements of the law enforcement market. Their technology is up to date and in some cases is cutting edge. In my opinion there were more bacterial cells on the prepared slide than there was the fresh slide. This could also have to do With the type of yogurt used. 3. Describe the four main bacterial shapes. The four main bacterial shapes are spheres, rods, commas and spirals. Spherical bacteria are called Cisco and look like small little balls. Rod shaped bacteria is called bacillus and looks like a macaroni noodle. The comma bacteria is called a brio and looks just as it sounds, like a comma. Lastly there is the spiral, which is really called the spiritual. 4. What are the common arrangements of bacteria? Diploid means paired. Streets means linked in chains. Overall, my learning experience has taken me to a higher level of understanding that diversity within the same beliefs in Buddhism are mainly different by the way they migrated and the way Buddha is represented in the features and looks in another culture. However, whatever the culture might be, the teachings of Buddha are all shared and learned the same way: To do no evil. To cultivate all good. To purify the mind.
